FAMILY PARTNERSHIP
 E-NEWS
September 2008

Welcome to the FAMILY PARTNERSHIP E-News!  Family Partnership E-News keeps you up to date on the happenings in the Fund Development Department of Girl Scouts of Western Ohio and keeps you up-to-date on Family Partnership progress.  These mailings are sent out once a month; if you have suggestions for topics to be addressed in future editions of the Family Partnership E-News please send an e-mail request to your regional development manager.

Where Does the Money Go?
I know I get this question a lot and I’m sure many of you do too. Here are a few ways to answer that question the next time it pops up.
  • Volunteer Resource Disc at no cost for volunteers
  • Safety-Wise at no cost for volunteers
  • Roundtable materials at no cost for volunteers
  • No and/or low cost trainings
  • Troop start-up funds
  • And much, much more!
You can also let them know statistics show that...
  • 72% more Girl Scouts than non-Girl Scouts choose to tell the truth rather than submit to peer pressure.
  • 66% of the women of professional achievement were Girl Scouts-many women in the House and Senate are former Girl Scouts.
  • 40% more Girl Scouts than non Girl Scouts won’t cheat on a test.
  • 32% more Girl Scouts than non Girl Scouts will refuse alcohol at a party.
  • And only 1% of all Girl Scouts ever goes before a juvenile court judge.

Success!

Don’t know who to contact wi th questions or for more information? Check the “contact us” section on our website to find each region’s staff roster with contact information.
Ideas! Ideas! Ideas!

Hold a letter writing drive, have girls and adults write letters to families asking them to participate in the Family Partnership Campaign. Make it a fun night, supply ice cream or pizza, and take plenty of breaks for songs and games!

Already have an event planned? Add $1 to the admission price to go towards Family Partnership (make sure you note this on the event invitation or when they pay). If admission is free you can have a coat check or beverage station where proceeds go towards Family Partnership.

Attach the half sheet flier reminding parents and guardians that they can donate to Family Partnership on their girl’s registration form. Don’t have a copy of the flier? Email Abi Francis for a copy.

F.Y.I.

The Family Partnership Campaign is a year-round event. It starts January 1st and ends December 31st.

Many parents work at businesses that provide matching donations to local non-profits. Have leaders and parents (and you!) ask their human resources department for more information.

The best place to start the Family Partnership Campaign is at service unit meetings. It will be a good selling point when you tell parents there is 100% participation from their service unit members.

Ways you can help:

  • A great way to gain donations for your service unit’s campaign is to encourage families to make a tribute gift in honor of that special teacher/someone who has made an impact in your Girl Scout’s life.  This would also be a great way to honor your Girl Scout’s troop leader.
  • Now that a new school year has begun and troops are becoming active again, this is a great time of year to approach small businesses and organizations in your community and ask for monetary donations.  These donations will count towards our service unit Family Partnership goal.  If you would like sample letters or other ideas on how to approach a small business please do not hesitate to contact Kristy Huffman at 489-1025, or  khuffman@grgsc.org
  • If you are planning a troop, community or service unit event such as a mom & me campout, father/daughter event, a parents' meeting, or any other event where adults will be present, etc., you can sell tickets for a split the pot raffle or even set out an empty container to collect donations.
  • If you need more ideas, please contact Kevin Berlon at kberlon@aol.com.
  • Send your donation to GRGSC, drop it off to Kevin Berlon, or go online and donate.  Please make a note that the donation should be credited to the Joining Hands Service Unit #476 Campaign.
